DURGA PUJA IN - RANCHI ( the city of waterfalls :> )

“Durga puja”— the eve at which the “night life” of the city awakens in the most spectacular manner ... the majesty of pandals .. the joy of dandia ..the typical getups, mesmerising street foods and the authentic belief system... :) the city and it’s celebration holding trail of precious memories 🙃 ... nd with the aesthetic bhajans .. music nd dance .. it turns into our very own “tommorowland” !

That’s the beauty of durga puja - yes the durgo mahotsav is at its best in Kolkata but a city just
9 hrs away from there i.e RANCHI is not any less - heard of it ? The capital city of JHARKHAND - acting to INDIA just like a beautiful garden arena acts to a mansion :) and talking about Durga puja -the city has it’s own unique style to enjoy this splendid festival  WITH -


📍THE PANDALS CONTEST : The city hosts every year a competition between all major 150 pandals ( pandal groups ) in Ranchi and the winner is choosen by votes , judgements and points . The pandals are marked on the basis 5 criterias by RMC ( Ranchi municipal cooperations )  out of which the latest adddition are education and innovation ! The props used in pandals are amusing and if they are prepared by some recycled stuffs it attracts points (marks) whereas usage of non biodegradable substances and plastics leads to negative marking ... cleanliness and management of nirmalya waste (i.e. imersion wastes , flowers etc.)  are some other basic criterias . An easy yet innovative and enjoyable way to promote SWACCHH TAYOHAR ;)  !!  The Pandals have improved a lot and knocks the door with a new message every year -  “ clean India “ ... “ban plastics” .. “tribute to martyrs” .... “Women empowerment” has all been their theme year after year ! Watching the splendour of these “temple replicas” Made with  those bamboos , motis , threads , zari , gotas - plus ideas , love and devotion ;) is something worth experiencing !

Handknitten works ... jhallars and lots Others  Also  the Mouth watering Food that the  expo offers is NOT TO BE MISSED !

📍FOOD,FUN and FERVOUR : 

Food : the taste of Ranchi just like any other city is UNIQUE with rice as its staple diet and with minimal spices , lots of edible flowers and Mushrooms - the cuisine that the city has to offer is SPECIAL !  And the puja offers you the best chance to have a cheat day Or maybe two ...give your diet a break and feast to your taste buds :) 

MUST TRY STREET FOODS —

✔️ Litti - the traditional bihari food Litti is wheat dumplings stuffed with barley dipped in ghee and served with chawkha (potato sharpener)and chatni is a delicacy that  you must have on your FOODBucket list ! Ranchi offers the best littis  THE BHOLA LITTI STALL in Doranda is one of the best litti stalls globally and that can be guaranteed ;)

✔️DHUSKA AND GHUGHNI - dhuska is a traditional Jharkhand meal they are deep fried rice pancakes served with “ghughni” i.e Black chickpeas curry should be definitely tried if one ever visits Ranchi :)

Talking about FUN and FERVOUR... Ranchi has  always been a fun loving city  - A city which loves dancing in the rain  ...A city which loves to celebrate every little reason of happiness - a city full of zeal - A city who loves picnics , gatherings and party ... its like that Young teenager who wants to fly free ....slowly learning developing , exploring..and dreaming HIGH .... a city Who dares to claim the sky and in the end sits  peacefully under that green tree or the graceful waterfall which is as vivid and fresh as the city’s soul :) 

But this tranquille becomes chaotic yet alluring during the festive season because DURGA PUJA means - DEVOTION clipped with DANDIA  & GARBA !! Dandia and garba raas the popular Gujrati dance form has its own “Ranchi version” here .. during the festive seaoson ! Various dandia night events are organised by major clubs , radio cities and newspapers and these events should be absolutely attended !

If you are an old school and miss the chaotic 90s local fare (melas ) and rides  then arrive here during durga puja because the local rides in melas even today are somewhat more exiting than the costly amusement park rides

Lastly the feel .. the vibrat aura and the DEVOTION the city offers for the 10 auspicious day of durga puja is worth mentioning  :)
